WinningTennis 

       WinningTennis was founded in 2007 by Nick & Raquel O'Hara to  promote and improve tennis  for adults and juniors in the Northern Suffolk and surrounding areas.  Nick O'Hara is a former College of William & Mary Tennis Player and the 1st  Virginia Beach Public School Player to receive a tennis scholarship to a 4 year university.  His record singles winning percentage of over .920 during his junior and senior seasons @ #4 and #1 still stands @ Kempsville High School.  His tennis background includes being a top player in several locales in the north & southeast regions,  and an assistant professional @ Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, Maryland.  He has competed against several All-Americans and players who competed on the European and US tours.

      Nick has been the varsity boys tennis coach @ Walsingham Academy, and has coached 5 adult USTA teams out of the Riverfront/Harbourview area of  Suffolk.  He is certified by the U.S. National Tennis Academy and combines instructional methods from the US National Tennis Academy and Van der Meer methodology.  He learned the Van der Meer method personally as a student, from local tennis professionals David Howell and former Virginia Beach Tennis Coordinator Helen Cummings.   

      Of particular note, all 6 of the junior tournament players in the tennis program obtained Virginia State Rankings by the end of 2007.  Five of the students were just beginners,  starting tennis lessons in August, 2007.  Top-rated student, Ankit Gupta was ranked as high as 33rd in the state.  He has also formed, sponsored, coached, and Captained 5 teams from the Northern Suffolk/Harbourview area which included players from Southside Hampton Roads and the Peninsula.

What We Do

       Tennis lessons, racquet stringing, videoanalysis, tournament preparation, and analysis of tournament results.   Nick & Raquel often travel with the junior students and their parents to observe  their tennis matches .  This helps WinningTennis in planning a more comprehensive program for  improvement.
